Viola Konkol

June 19, 2020

Obituary

Viola I (Francisco) Konkol, age 90 originally of Fairfield , passed away peacefully Friday June 19, 2020 where she resided at Carriage Green in Milford.
Born in Amsterdam New York, daughter of the late Ruth Kruger and Norman Francisco. Viola was a long time resident of Fairfield with her late husband Joe.
A farm girl at heart, Viola had a love of animals, enjoyed vegetable gardening and grooming her flower beds. In the early days , on Saturday, you would often find her with a newspaper circling the tags sales and getting one of the kids to ride along to find as many bargains as possible! She loved antiques, and collecting almost everything she thought “will be worth a lot of money someday”. Viola loved a variety of music , even teaching herself to play some tunes on the piano and harmonica.  Dancing to any music was a favorite but especially Polkas, as she and  Joe would often be out polka dancing with friends on Saturday nights or in the kitchen during the Polka radio hour.
Viola was very talented, teaching herself to sew clothing, make beautiful quilts and needlework as well as having a natural talent to draw and paint. She enjoyed painting flowers and scenery the most.
Viola was a strong, resilient and determined woman who survived a tragic childhood. She worked hard at a variety of jobs (sometimes two at a time) until the age of 73!
Her most important position however, was running  her home and raising her family with her husband of almost 57 years.
Viola was an active member of the Raymond J. Bower Post 1466 Catholic War Veterns Ladies Auxiliary. She participated in many civic activities with the auxiliary and made long time friends.
Viola will be missed by by her three children, Joseph R. Konkol and his wife Donna of Monroe, Lori (Konkol) Kratzer and her husband Richard of Milford and David Konkol and his wife Terri of Naugatuck; six grandchildren, Jessica, Colleen and Kyle Konkol and Marla , Julia and Ricky Kratzer.
Viola will also be missed by her surviving siblings Lucy Grandshaw and Gordon Francisco both of New York State.
A private service will be held on Tuesday June 23, at 11:00 at Larsons Funeral home with interment to  follow at Mountain GroveCemetery.
