Margaret Shaw Ailes, age 100, of Bridgeport, devoted wife of the late Curtis Lionel Ailes, Jr., passed away peacefully on January 27, 2023.
Margaret is survived by her three sons, Stanley Ailes in Carmel, NY, Steven Ailes in Columbus, OH, and James (Jim) Ailes in San Diego, CA; her daughter, Dorothy Rich, of Norwalk, CT; as well as daughter in law Michele Ailes (Jim’s wife); and grandsons, Brian Ailes and Patrick Ailes; her nephews, Richard (Rick) Jones and Jeffrey Jones, who always kept in touch. She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis L. Ailes, Jr., who died in Jan. 1987; and her sisters, Dorothy Jones and Lucille Marshall, and their husbands, Richard (Dick) Jones and Lance Marshall, Jr.
Margaret resided at The Watermark, 3030 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. She previously lived in a condo at the Heritage Hills community in Somers, NY, and prior to that, lived in Mount Kisco, NY with her husband and children.
Margaret graduated from Cornell University in 1943. A homemaker and bookkeeper, she worked at GE during WWII, where she met her future husband, Curtis L. Ailes, Jr.
In earlier years she did a great deal of volunteer work, such as teaching ESL, leading educational nature walks, and providing Meal on Wheels and rides. She was a nature lover and observer and a life-long bird watcher. She enjoyed classical music and reading books on historical figures, especially from the American Revolution, and getting together with friends to play cards. She was a “news junkie”, always on top of world news and political developments even as she neared the end of her life. People were often surprised to learn her age because even at 100 she retained her warm nature and sharp mind.
Services for Margaret will be private.
