Obituary

John Joseph Shea, Jr, age 64, of Trumbull, beloved son of the late John Joseph Shea, Sr and Dolores Geary Shea, passed away peacefully February 4, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Born in Bridgeport CT, the eldest of four children, John was a graduate of Trumbull High School. A loving son, brother and friend to everyone he met. Johnny was presented with cerebral palsy while on this earth. He did not let that define him. John and Dolores made sure he was given every opportunity he deserved. They were advocates in a time when the services for special needs were limited and John’s life was enriched by their uncompromising love and devotion. He had a love of music, art, nature, the ocean, baseball games, Camp Hebron and being surrounded by friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and his laughter lit up his beautiful blue eyes. He taught his siblings to be kind to one another, have empathy for others and to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. He taught them to look beyond a physical or mental disability and appreciate the person within. Johnny loved being with his extended family especially around the holidays and was very proud of his nieces and nephews. He always took the time to say how nice you looked, compliment your outfit, or ask how a family member was doing. He always thought of others before himself.

John will be lovingly remembered by his family: Cathy Dolny and her husband Chris, Eileen O’Brien and her husband Myles, Maureen Fleming and her husband Jay and his cherished nieces and nephews: Sarah Shane and her husband Chris, Chelsea Rose Dolny, Elizabeth and Colin O’Brien, Kayleigh, Alannah and Declan Fleming.

The family would like to thank the Main Street Trumbull Group Home, especially Raul Barada, Nicola Allen-Marie and Claude Chapman along with all the rest of the staff who were so kind and caring to him and organized so many wonderful celebrations and adventures. They truly went above and beyond in their devotion to provide a loving home for Johnny and his house mates, whom he considered his brothers. The family is also forever grateful to the wonderful staff at St Vincent’s Changing Image Adult Day Program whom he loved so much.

A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date. Interment will be private. For service detail updates, or to sign his online guest registry, please visit www.LarsonFH.com
