Cathleen Rickard, age 57 of Derby, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday November 27, 2019. Born in Bridgeport on September 11, 1962, Cathleen grew up in Fairfield, CT and was a 1981 graduate of Andrew Warde High School. Cathleen participated on several sports teams and she played bass clarinet in the school band. After High School Cathleenhad various jobs and then found her passion in health care. She worked for many years as a CNA at St. Joseph’s Manor in Trumbull, The Carlton Nursing Home in Fairfield and Lord Chamberlin in Stratford. Cathleen took great pride in her work and she loved her patients. The feeling was reciprocal; her patients loved her as well. If you were a patient of hers you were also her friend. Cathleen would do anything for her friends and she would stand by them no matter what. Cathleen had a passion for life, living and people. She was not shy and she was known to speak her mind whether it was telling a joke, telling people what she thought or telling someone she loved them. With Cathleen you always knew where she stood and she had the biggest heart of anyone you could ever meet.
Cathleen is survived by her 3 children, Arthur Botha of Waterbury, Laura Botha of Stratford and Raymond Ward also of Stratford. Cathleen loved watching her children grow up. She lovedtaking them to the beach or Wildwood for summer vacations, going out on the boat or just staying around the house and playing in the pool. Cathleen also loved taking her daughter to dance recitals and cheering her on with the family. She was always the loudest parent cheering. Cathleen loved the holidays and would always wear something loud and colorful, but seasonal. We always looked forward to her spinach dip. Cathleen loved spending time with family and friends whether it was going to a concert or just hanging around the house talking and enjoying a good meal.
Cathleen is preceded by her mother Elizabeth Rickard and her father Christopher Rickard III.She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Rickard of Shelton, her brother Christopher RickardIV of Milford and her nephew Christopher Rickard V also of Milford. Cathleen is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Cathleen is the great granddaughter of Christopher Rickard, the founder of C. Rickard and Son’s Storage and Moving which operated in Bridgeport for 100 years.
