Agnes Spigarolo, 94, of Fairfield went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 30, 2022.
She was born in Bristol, Connecticut but lived the majority of her life in Fairfield. As a young girl she had the dream of being a professional dancer, but that dream was not to be realized due to a childhood illness. She chose nursing as her career and studied at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing. Early in her career she took great pride in helping save the lives of polio patients. She worked as a private duty nurse, then went into geriatric nursing and was the Director of Nurses at Golden Heights Convalescent home for many years. She volunteered for over 10 years at the Southport Congregational Church Thrift Store and was always available to help anyone in need. Agnes never met a stranger as she truly enjoyed talking to everyone she met. She used her love of dancing to teach her children and grandchildren how to dance. In her late 80’s she spent four years taking dance lessons at the Fred Astaire Studio in Trumbull, which brought her great joy. She loved music and would dance any time the music moved her soul.
The crowning joy of her life was the family she and her husband Donald created with their four children. Their home was always busy with people and activities as well as being open to anyone who needed a cup of coffee, a listening ear, nursing advice or needed to be fed. This loving attitude caused their family circle to grow extensively over the years and included many people who were “family of choice”.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Donald Spigarolo, Sr. and her son, Donald Spigarolo, Jr. She is survived by her children, Donna Spigarolo, Elliott (Donna) Spigarolo and Ellen (Tom) Bush. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel (Nicole) Spigarolo, Tiffany Spigarolo, Brian Spigarolo and Andrew Spigarolo, Justin (Diana) Bush, Christopher Bush and six great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by sister Beverly Kellum, brothers Leigh Bayne and Robert Bayne, cousin Robert Ford, her sister-in-law, Janet Weston, many nieces and nephews and the special friends that were so much a part of her daily life.
We would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Sharon, Laverne and Maria who showed their love for her in the great care they gave her each and every day. Friends may attend the funeral mass on Thursday November 3, 2022 at 10am directly at St Anthony of Puda 149 S Pine Creek Rd, Fairfield.
