Joseph Varhidi passed away on Monday August 6, 2018 in his home in Bridgeport, Ct. He is predeceased by his father Joseph Varhidi Sr, and survived by his mother, Maria Cziraky Varhidi , brother, Frank Varhidi, all of whom were much beloved. Joseph was born in Bridgeport on October 2, 1958. He began his musical studies with Sister Ernestine of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit (Sorbonne University, Paris) and graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School. Joseph’s artistic education continued with Burton Hathaway (Yale; Manhattan School of Music) composer, educator, pianist whose instruction led Joseph to major piano performances in New York. Joseph attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York and studied under the direction of Dora Zaslovsky, renowned pianist and instructor, who’s pedigree included studying with Harold Bauer and Wilhelm Bachaus. Joseph taught voice, piano and music theory for over thirty years. He was employed at the Professional Music Center and Music and Arts in Fairfield, Connecticut. He served as choir director, organist and pianist for Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Margaret’s Shrine in Bridgeport, CT Joseph was a recipient of the St. Augustine Medal of Service awarded by the Diocese of Bridgeport. Joseph’s Musical, contributions, included being, a studio musician for professional singers and instrumentalist, an arranger and vocal coach for musical theater and public performer and composer.
