Gertrude (Garrie) J. Schulz, age 97, of Fairfield, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, A. Edward Schulz. Born on October 17, 1922 in Bridgeport CT, she was the daughter of the late Hjalmar and Rose Johnson.
She grew up in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1940. Garrie and Ed were high school sweethearts and were married on June 15, 1946 after Ed returned from serving in the Merchant Marine during WWII.
Together they built a house, made a home, and raised three children in Fairfield. Boating and a love of the water (calm water for Mom, please!) had always been a special part of their life together. Garrie spent her life being a wife, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her loving family. She lived her 97 years with unconditional love and compassion for her family and the many friends who loved her dearly.
Garrie leaves behind her three children, Bonnie S. McWain and her husband Jim, Linda S. Robbins and her husband Arthur, David E. Schulz and his wife Priscilla. Her beloved granddaughters; Jessie Roberge and her husband Bunker, Alison Robbins, Juliana Robbins and her fiancé Pete Spiros, Kerry Lebedevitch and her husband Stephen, and Kristin Schulz and her boyfriend Chris Ager; and her four great grandchildren, who have brought such joy to her life, Grayson and Adalyn Roberge, and Liam and Landon Lebedevitch. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Johnson of Spring Hill, Florida.
The family extends their gratitude to the Carolton Convalescent Hospital West Wing staff and Masonicare Home and Hospice for the compassion and care they have shown their mother in the last years of her life. We also wish to thank all those friends who never stopped asking “How’s Mom?”.
