Obituary

David Hogarth, 78, of Fairfield, Connecticut passed away on Monday, January 13th peacefully in his home. He was a beloved husband,father,grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his commitment to his country, his love of oldies music, his affable personality and his stubborn attempts to keep a stoic face at the dinner table amidst his children’s antics.

David was born on September 2, 1941 in Black Hill, Concett County, Durham, England. David resided in Fairfield for over 50 years. David is predeceased by his beautiful first wife, Heather Joy Frank Hogarth, loving mother of his four children. David is also predeceased by his father, William P. Hogarth and David’s mother, Bertha Hogarth. 
 

David is survived by his wife, Georgianna; son William and his wife Mindy, son Brian and his wife Sandy, daughter Britt Joy, daughter Sonya and her partner Ralph Cafiero Jr, and three beloved grandchildren, Jack, Evelyn and Isaiah. David is also survived by his three step-Children, Laurie Richardson, Sharie Bruno and Danny Bell.

During the Vietnam War, David honorably served his country in the United States Navy. In 1969, David joined the Fairfield Police Department where he faithfully served his community for 23 years. He retired from the police department in 1992. 

David’s love and passion for baseball led him to coach baseball at every level from youth through college programs, including American Legion Baseball. He impacted generations of Fairfield’s youth with his dedication to the sport. David also served as a member of various American Legion Baseball Committees.

He was also a very active member of the American Legion George A. Smith Post #74 of Fairfield and most recently American Legion Post #16 of Shelton. Additionally, David served on the State level as third District Commander and with the Department Color Guard. Whether serving the masses at picnics, delivering speeches at veterans’ events, or chairing Fairfield’s Memorial Day parades, David took great pride in representing the American Legion.

David was a distinguished member of the Fidelity-St. John’s Lodge No.3 since 1967. Over the decades, he helped to shape their Masonic lodge and set standards for their organization to follow. He also belonged to the Scottish and York Rite bodies.

An avid outdoorsman, David loved hunting and fishing, so much so that he started a waterfowl guide business on the Eastern Shore of Connecticut. From teaching his boys how to dress appropriately for the frigid foul hunting on the sound, to deep sea fishing adventures off Cape Cod, his sons can talk for hours of their escapades they shared with their father.

David impacted and influenced countless people. He will be fondly remembered for all he gave to those who had the honor and pleasure of knowing him. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate David’s life on Saturday, February 1, 2020. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am at Penfield Pavilion 323 Fairfield Beach Road, Fairfield, Connecticut 06824.  in Fairfield, Connecticut,
