Louise Petril Betz

May 30, 2017

Betz- Louise Petril Betz, age 97, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on May 28, 2017. she was predeceased by her loving husband George J, Betz Sr. Louise was born in Hazelton, PA to Joseph and Anna Petril in 1919. She had two brothers and 5 sisters. Louise and George got married, and migrated to Bridgeport prior to the start of WWII in search of employment and a new life. When George enlisted in the Army at the start of the war, Louise resided in Father Panic Village where she raised their daughter and son. Upon George's return from the war in Germany they briefly returned to Pennsylvania where George worked in the coal mines. Seeing little opportunity for a bright future, they returned to Bridgeport where another son was added to the family. They struggled long and hard to achieve their dream of owning a home. They eventually purchased a "fixer-upper" in Bridgeport's West End, and gradually converted it to a warm and welcoming abode for the family. They later moved to a larger house in the city. When eventually "empty--nesters" they moved to a small house in the North End of the city where they lived comfortably for the remainder of their lives. Louise became an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where she participated in the Resurrection Choir. She also contributed much time and energy in helping maintain the beauty of her cherished place of worship. Louise leaves behind her beloved daughter Linda Grella and husband Patrick Grella as well as two sons and their wives, James and Linda Betz and George Jr. And Sharon Betz. She will also be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren whom Louise doted on with great love and pride. She will be deeply missed and kept in the prayers of her entire family. Friends are invited to attend her Funeral on Friday at 9:45 am from the Larson Funeral home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport and at 10:30 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Fairfield for a mass of Christian burial.
